What is Upper GI Endoscopy?
 |
This is a procedure that
enables your physician to directly examine the lining of your upper
GI tract (the esophagus, stomach and the first part of the small
bowel called the duodenum) for abnormalities. |

This is done by inserting a smooth, flexible lighted
tube about the size of your finger attached to a video system and
slowly advancing it into the stomach. |
|
|
This has pretty much replaced the upper GI Series (Barium) since
your physician
can directly visualize the structures. |
|
|
It is used to evaluate Upper GI symptoms and problems; Ulcer disease,
Gastritis, Causes of anemia, Reflux/GERD(heartburn), food sticking and
Cancer. |
|
|
This is a very
comfortable, rapid out-patient procedure.
